The Spirit and the Cross

We have begun to look at what we believe here on Sunday mornings.  It is challenging me and us to make sure that what we believe is based on the Word of God and not on our opinion or on some person or denomination’s doctrine.  There is nothing wrong with doctrine and there is nothing wrong with opinion, but if what you and I believe is based ONLY on those things then we have missed the point of belief.  The Word of God is foundational and God has given it to us so that we might know Him.  It IS His WORD – He breathed life into it so that we might be able to understand what He has for us today.  It is living and active – it is powerful and instructional – it is His Word!

Life’s Serendipities

Life is full of surprises every day.  Some of them are pleasant – some of them are incredible – some of them are not so good and when they happen you find yourself wishing that they had never come.  I love the term “serendipity” and what it means. There are at least a couple of definitions of that word.  The first, “good fortune; luck.”  But it is the next one that I especially like to focus on:  it is, “an aptitude for making desirable discoveries by accident.”  With that meaning or definition in mind, while I may not have “an aptitude” for it, I had the joy of living a “desirable discovery by accident” on Monday.  Let me tell you about it and why I’ve chosen to share it with you.
