The Grace of Giving: First From the Lord
What do you have in your hand?  We give because Christ gave to us first.  We give, not out of what we don't have, but what we do have!

The Grace of Giving: First to the Lord
The Grace of Giving first to the Lord is a reminder that "Giving of any kind apart from giving ourselves first to the Lord is pointless."

I Am Thankful

This morning at a little after 2:30 in the morning, heaven became a little richer.  Gilbert Montoya breathed his last here in this world and breathed his first breath in heaven.  We have lost a friend, a man of God and a husband, father and grandfather who was loved very much by his family and friends.  I will miss Gilbert.  Our prayers go out to Pat and her daughters and their families.  The family is looking at Saturday December 3 for the Memorial service and we’ll keep you updated as we get more information.

In light of that, in light of the events over the last year here in our nation and of course in light of the time of the year that we are in, I’ve been thinking about what it means to give thanks to God.  The apostle Paul wrote to the church at Thessalonica some words that are at best hard to not just understand but hard to practice and at best they are a goal to aim at.  We find those words in 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18.  He writes, “Be joyful always, pray continually; give thanks in all circumstances, for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.”  Do you see what I mean? Are we willing to be honest with ourselves and honest with God when we say, “it is hard to always be joyful?  It is a giant task to pray continually and, giving thanks in ALL circumstances . . . can I really do that?”  I want to speak specifically to that this morning as we prepare to celebrate Thanksgiving Day here in the United States.

A Voice In Our Culture

I have been living the last few days thinking about and trying to ponder what it means to live  in Thanksgiving – specifically, the idea of what it means to live a life filled with thanks to God for Him.  I do not mean the things that He does for us.  I do not mean the blessings He gives to us.  I do not mean the promises that He has made for us.  I simply mean living a life filled with thanks to God for who He is.  He is God.  That is profound folks because we seem to live in an age where we think that there is no God or at the very least that we are free to choose our god.  Now to an extent, that last statement is true . . . to an extent. We can choose who or what we will follow as god, but there is a passage of verses in Paul’s letter to the church at Philippi that tells us that ultimately everyone who has lived, who is alive and who will live will see that He is God and there is no other. Read with me what Paul wrote!

No One Saw That Coming! 11/9/16

Unprecedented!  It was the first time that ever happened!  When the sun came up it was completely different than any of the “pundits” had predicted with certainty.  I believe I can say without a doubt that no one saw that coming!  Some of you, most of you, perhaps everyone of you think that what I’ve already written here is about the national election that took place in the United States yesterday . . . and you couldn’t be further from the truth!  That isn’t what I’m talking about at all!
