Promises 7/22/15

Good morning,

“This is the day the LORD has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it” (Psalm 118:24).  Have you stopped yet today to rejoice in today?  I just want to remind you this morning of what the Word of God has to say.  Today, Wednesday July 22, 2015, TODAY has been made by the LORD for you and for me.  By the way, when the psalmist used that term, “the LORD,” (all caps) he was using a most intimate name of God, Yahweh, which means “I AM is with you.”  Not only did He make today, but He is with you.  REJOICE AND BE GLAD IN IT!  Stop complaining, God made today.  For those of us who are blessed enough to live here in the mountains of southern NM, look at the beautiful green that God has blessed us with.  These rains, after the wonderful snow we had this winter, have made this place so beautiful.  REJOICE AND BE GLAD IN IT!

“And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age” (Matthew 28:20).  Do you know that God is with you today?  He was with you yesterday.  He will be with you tomorrow.  In fact, there’s not a day that you have lived or ever will live where He won’t be with you; He is “with you always . . .”  So everything that you face today, God is there with you.  When someone treats you badly or mistreats you, God is there with you.  When you find out bad news from the doctor or lawyer or accountant or spouse or child or parent, God is there with you.  When you hold that grandchild or child or when you talk to them on the phone or Skype with them on the computer, God is there with you.  It doesn’t matter where you go or what happens to you, God is there with you!

“But they that wait upon the LORD shall renew their strength.  They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint” (Isaiah 40:31).  This is one of my favorites, oh, and let me remind you, look at that name again, there it is, “the LORD” is the One who is doing this.  Now stop and think about this for just a few moments:  as we wait upon the LORD, we are going to be able to “soar on wings like eagles,” we are going to “run and not grow weary,” and we’re going to be able to “walk and not faint.”  Those are some pretty amazing promises – YES, they are promises.  Our problem is that we’re running out into the day, into the week without waiting on Him!  So when you’re so tired (and I’m not talking here about physical tired) that you want to quit; when you’re fainting because of the problems or anything else for that matter, maybe, JUST maybe, it’s because you haven’t waited on the LORD.  In fact, I’d just like to encourage you to STOP what you’re doing right now and wait on Him.

“Call to me and I will answer you and tell you great and unsearchable things you do not know” (Jeremiah 33:3).  Now I REALLY like this one, let me tell you why.  (Before I do, all of these quotations from scripture are from the NIV.)  I think that this one is especially for us today here in the 21st century.  Think about this:  if you want to know ANYTHING today, what do you do?  You Google it!  That wasn’t even a word 20 years ago.  But you can Google just about anything today and find out what you want to know.  I have a radio in my car that I don’t know how to set the time on, but I can Google it and I can get a video of someone showing me how to set the time.  I can Google a recipe, a phone number, an address, a quote, a date . . . and the list goes on and on.  But look at that verse again – God says to you and me that He will tell us some things that are unsearchable.  Yep, believe it or not, there are some things that even Google can’t tell you, BUT GOD CAN!  But we have to call to Him to find out.  (There’s that waiting thing again!)  One more . . .

“I have loved you with an everlasting love; I have drawn you with loving-kindness” (Jeremiah 31:3).  Just in case you were wondering if you were loveable, God says to you and me that His love for us is an “everlasting” love – WOW.  I have dealt with so many people in my life and ministry who are so hungry to be loved – I’ve dealt with so many who don’t feel worthy of love – I’ve dealt with so many who have looked for love “in all the wrong places” and they’ve been so disappointed – I’ve dealt with so many people who have been hurt by “love”.  You don’t have to be disappointed in the least – the Perfect One loves YOU with an everlasting love!  He knew you before you were born (Psalm 139:13), He knows everyone of your days (139:16), you are so precious to Him that it doesn’t matter where you go, He is there (139:7-12).  He WON’T hurt you!

He made today for you; He is with you; He’ll strengthen you for what you need to do; He’ll show you what you need to know; He loves you!

I love you,

Rick

The Body of Christ 7/15/15

Good morning,

I have been reflecting a lot these last two days on this past weekend and what is ahead for the next couple of weeks.

This past weekend we saw the Body of Christ in a way that few people today ever see it.  Nine (9) congregations came together as THE church.  Please understand that I said that purposefully – it wasn’t 9 churches, it was 9 congregations, 9 different parts of the Body of Christ here in Lincoln County decided to BE the Body of Christ.  We majored on what we know we have in common, Jesus, and had an incredible weekend.  John Duncan, Alan Stoddard, Ed Vinson, Derrick Jones, Bobby Barnett, Phil Appel, Justin Bowman and Chris Weaver showed themselves to be men of God.  We ARE NOT perfect.  We DO NOT always do things right.  There are times when we mess up, but this weekend these 8 men showed their heart.  And I was and am blessed to be a part of this journey with them.

But what is even more amazing is the congregations that came along too.  We worshipped together; we sang and laughed together; we listened to and learned from the preaching of the Word of God; we ate pie together, drank some coffee together and we loved each other.  In other words, we were showing what the Body of Christ looks like.  For those of you who were able to be a part of it you understand what I’m talking about.

We have the opportunity to see that continue in a unique way starting today for the next four days as Ranchman’s Camp takes place over on Nogal Mesa.  This is the 75th year we’ve met together like this.  We don’t talk about the separate congregations; we don’t emphasize the “way” in which we are different; we celebrate the Body of Christ.  I want to urge you, don’t miss the opportunity to be a part of this.  The setting is rustic; the people are loving and warm; the food is delicious; the music is wonderful, the preaching is unique and blessed and the coffee is cowboy coffee all the way!  I urge you to head out to Nogal Mesa at some point during the rest of this week and take part in the Body of Christ Ranchman’s Camp style!

In about 12 days people who are parts of the Nazarene churches across the NM district and beyond will come together here at Bonita Park for our annual Family Camp.  (And just a note, you don’t have to be a part of the Nazarene church to be a part of this, after all, that would COMPLETELY defeat the purpose wouldn’t it?)  It is a different part of the Body of Christ but it is a time to come together and see how God works in another setting.  Again, what you will find is the Body of Christ loving, sharing, worshipping, learning to love the Word, singing, eating, fellowshipping and yes, drinking coffee together.  If you’ve never experienced it I want to encourage you to make plans to do so, July 27-August 2.

You and I are blessed – we are part of something here in Lincoln County that doesn’t happen everywhere.  I have friends from other parts of the country that see and hear what is happening here (because I LOVE to share it) and they tell me it isn’t happening there.  We can be a part of a revolution – we can be a part of the beginning of something that God intended all along.

Thank you Father for allowing me to be at this place, at this time and a part of what YOU are doing!

I love you,

Rick

Hello world!

Daily Devotional

Psalm 13:5-6 – “But I have trusted in Your mercy; my heart shall rejoice in Your salvation.  I will sing to the Lord, because He has dealt bountifully with me.”

Take joy in the Lord.  Allow Him to change you and expand your vision of His Kingdom and your place and purpose in it.  Let His joy fill you so much that it not only changes you but also everyone around you as you let Christ work through you.  Love covers a multitude of sin, hatred, and discouragement.  today, plant seeds of change in someone’s life and you plant seeds that will change a life!  You have a place and role in the business of  “Kingdom Building”.  What a great thought!
