    Series: Prayer
Jesus gives us a model for prayer that will help us to learn to pray.  More than just saying the words, we can learn to pray the way that God has directed us.

There are two passages of scripture I want to reference for you this morning – the first is Matthew 13:58 and the second is John 14:14.  Now it isn’t just these two verses that we need to look at but we also have to look at the context of all that surrounds them.  There are a couple of things that we really need to learn from this, especially as we have been emphasizing prayer this month and particularly with the special services we have here beginning tonight and going through Friday evening with Dan Bohi.

I read a quote from a piece of paper I have in a file folder this morning on prayer.  Unfortunately, I do not know the author of this quote but it surely challenged me.  We are emphasizing prayer during the month of February with special times of prayer that the building is open for you to come and go as you are able.  We’re going to have Dan Bohi with us on February 15-16 to challenge us more in prayer and as we pray we are believing God for His best in our lives.  This past Sunday we looked at the Lord’s Prayer and saw how we can use it as a pattern to help us to focus our prayers more and spend more time in prayer. And when I read this quote this morning it challenged me even more.  Here is the quote:

Vulnerability, Intimacy and Connection

This last Christmas was one of the neatest Christmas’s I’ve enjoyed in a long time!  It is the first Christmas that our entire family was together since about 4 years ago and of course it included our son-in-law who is brand new to our family just a little over a year ago when he and our daughter married.  Having our family all together, “under one roof” as Sue puts it, was a huge highlight for me.  Also, having the privilege of having our two grandsons here with us for almost TWO FULL WEEKS was the icing on the top of the cake.  We were so worn out after they all left and it was just Sue and me again, but it was worth it and I’m grateful to God for the privilege of celebrating His birth with all of them.  So this blog this afternoon has to do not only with the effects of that visit on me, but specifically with a gift our daughter-in-law gave to me – a hand made quote that I’ve hung on my office wall by Sammy Rhodes.
