So, Where is Your Focus? 8/24/16

1 Kings 18-19 gives us the details of an amazing story!  We see the prophet Elijah preside over the humiliation and ultimately the death of the 450 prophets of Baal by praying a simple prayer to God and seeing a miraculous God answer by fire.after he prayed a prayer that is only 60 words long (in the NIV).  (I read that prayer out loud, as Elijah might have prayed it, and it only took me 17 seconds.)  He wasn’t shouting the prayer; he didn’t pray for an hour; he simply made his specific request of God and trusted that God would answer . . . and He did!  After that, he prayed for rain (it hadn’t rained for 3 1/2 years at his prayer request) and the rains came.  But that isn’t where I want you to focus.

Lessons From a Hummingbird Feeder & the Olympics 8/17/16

As I was driving out of our valley this morning at about 6:45 I noticed the temperature app on the car said it was 42 degrees outside!  I know it is still summer, but fall is in the air and I LOVE it!  Yesterday morning the temperature was close to the same and as I was in the kitchen pouring a cup of coffee I noticed our hummingbird feeder right outside the kitchen window. There are six (6) places for hummers to feed and five (5) of them had a hummer on them.  It was cold outside and they were eating for all they were worth.  I’ve noticed that when it is cold, they tend to congregate at the feeder like that.  But I’ve also noticed that this is not the “normal” modus-opperandi (how in the world do you spell that?) for hummingbirds!

Into Each Life a Little Rain . . . 8/9/16

Have you heard that statement, “Into each life a little rain must fall”?  It is a reminder to all of us that there are going to be problems that everyone is going to have to deal with.  No one, no matter who you are, has a life or is ever going to have a life that is perfect, no problems, no difficulties and issues to deal with – everyone is going to have problems to deal with.
We had a pretty big problem that we had to deal with because of “a little rain” or should I say a whole lot of rain!  On Saturday afternoon a massive downpour flooded the church gym at Angus.  Thanks to Betty Sanchez and some of the summer staff and other staff from over at Bonita Park who dropped what they were doing and went to clean up what they could.
