What Does God Intend?

I love the story in Genesis about Joseph.  Joseph is one of my biblical heroes because he faced adversity, betrayal, loss and so very much more and yet he trusted God and remained faithful.  I can’t even imagine what it must have felt like.  I believe that when Joseph told his brothers and his father about the dreams that he had, he wasn’t trying to brag or lord it over them, I believe he was a young man who was simply speaking about what had happened.  Could he have used a little more wisdom and discretion and  realized that what he was saying sounded at least a little like he was bragging?  Probably.  Should he have realized that his father was playing favorites with him, regardless of the reasons, and perhaps been a little more sensitive to what his brothers might have been feeling?  Perhaps.  Regardless of all of that, there is a quality in this man’s life that is one that I want to emulate.  Look at it with me.

The Spirit and the Cross

We have begun to look at what we believe here on Sunday mornings.  It is challenging me and us to make sure that what we believe is based on the Word of God and not on our opinion or on some person or denomination’s doctrine.  There is nothing wrong with doctrine and there is nothing wrong with opinion, but if what you and I believe is based ONLY on those things then we have missed the point of belief.  The Word of God is foundational and God has given it to us so that we might know Him.  It IS His WORD – He breathed life into it so that we might be able to understand what He has for us today.  It is living and active – it is powerful and instructional – it is His Word!

We Believe

This past Sunday morning I began preaching a series of sermons entitled “We Believe” that will last over 16-20 sermons.  We want to know the basic foundations of what we believe and why – we want to be sure that we understand that what we believe is solidly based on the Word of God.  If what we believe cannot be substantiated by the Word of God then honestly, we have NO reason or basis to believe it!  The basis for this series comes from what we know as the Articles of Faith from the Church of the Nazarene.  But we aren’t learning this because it comes from the Church of the Nazarene, we’re learning it because it is solidly based in the Word of God.  Here is a quick overview of where we’ll be going.
